Emerging infrastructure investments
Meeting net-zero targets will require billions of pounds of investment to scale up new emerging infrastructure assets across critical sectors such as Mobility, Energy Transition, Connectivity, Circular Economy and Construction. The opportunity is ripe for progressive companies to shape and grow these emerging sectors, supported by private growth capital.
The scale of ambitions will require investment in a new wave of emerging infrastructure businesses and adapting the existing ones.
We must repeat the successful growth of renewable energy generation and apply this to other new asset classes.
New sectors need to scale up.
Meeting net zero targets will require a new breed of asset classes, including long-duration electricity storage, hydrogen, electric vehicle charging, carbon capture, battery recycling and other ways of tapping into renewable resources and recycling finite resources.
Existing sectors need to adapt.
We also need to set new, higher benchmarks for existing sectors. For example, we need to decarbonise our heating, industrial processes and construction industry, dramatically improve the energy efficiency of expanding digital infrastructure and make sure that we improve and scale recycling processes and technologies.
Society is at an inflection point.

On behalf of our investors, the Octopus Sustainable Infrastructure Team is backing businesses which are critical to achieving net zero. We are backing asset-intensive companies in growing sectors with attractive risk/reward characteristics. We have committed approximately £1 billion into our strategy and continue expanding by working with companies looking for growth capital.

We have developed in-depth expertise backing asset-intensive platforms and scaling them up; in critical emerging sectors with truly transformative potential. As hands-on managers, our team is involved in commercial, regulatory and technical issues. We also act as a conduit between our portfolio companies to enhance value accretive collaboration.

The E-Smart represents the next step for InfraFleet, following the £10 million backing from Octopus Investments earlier this year.
